Paris, France - April 2017
Looking for a reasonably priced hotel at short notice over the Easter holiday and preferring modern style hotels over the plush decor and flowery wallpapers often found in Paris, we booked this hotel... and we did not regret it!
The hotel is modern and inviting. The rooms are average sized for a city hotel. The modern style continues throughout the rooms and their bathrooms, which are separated by a glass wall.
Breakfast was excellent - a good selection ranging from scrambled eggs and baked beans, various cereals, yogurt, cheese, cold cuts and even fish to extremely delicious croissants, pains au chocolat and homemade cakes. Not to forget the variety of (bio) juices, including freshly squeezed orange juice, and a decent coffee.
Another thing we noticed was the friendliness of the staff. From people at the front desk to the waiters at the breakfast buffet everybody was extremely nice and made us feel very welcome.
Speaking of friendliness... Basically on our doorstep, between the hotel and the Métro station, there was "L'Horizon", one of those typical Parisian bistros on the corner of the street. The waiter there made us feel like we were coming home every time we stopped there on our way to and from the hotel. It definitely added to the neighbourhood feel of the location.
Good! Getting there from Gare de l'Est train station was very easy with a direct Métro connection to “St. Placide” station (Line 4) just around the corner from the hotel. In addition, there was “Rennes”, the other station (Line 12) just a few steps away from St. Placide. When you enter St. Placide station you can still receive the hotel's Wifi, that's how close it is! Otherwise, despite its name the hotel is closer to the Montparnasse Tower than it is to the nightlife of Saint Germain des Prés. It is also just a few minutes walk from the Luxemburg Gardens.
The location is nice and has a cozy neighborhood feel to it. However, the hotel is not really close to the typical points of interest of first time visitors. All others will love it.
